Korda Big Grippa Swivel Lead 2oz Leads And Weights Korda You can basically utilise these leads anywhere that you need more grip, like rivers, on the sides of bars, marginal slopes or boating out at extreme range. We have recorded that you can get the same grip with a 1oz Grippa as you can with a 2oz Swivel Pear Lead. So with that in mind you can get away with a smaller lead to do the same job which is an advantage when fishing for barbel and chub on the rivers. Also a lighter lead makes a smaller splash so we like using them for casting to gently sloping island margins where a round lead can roll down. Korda Flatliner Distance Inline Lead 1-5oz Leads And Weights Korda This lead was based on a sea fishing design, which was used to hold the bottom over wrecks far out at sea. The four flat sides ensured that the lead always fell on one flat side and rarely rolled over. The nose heavy theme has been continued here so this lead will cast a very long way for an inline. During the first ever field testing Danny Fairbrass and Danny Turtle had over 90 carp in 4 nights on a big Dutch water - over half of those were over 20lb. Danny recalls 'the first night we both had a couple of twenties each but felt we should be doing better, a change over to a stiff link coupled with the prototype Flatliner Distance produced immediate takes for me, mainly because I felt the carp there had been hammered on soft hook links. So, moving over to a short stiff hook link with a heavy inline lead (the first prototypes were only in 4oz) made the rig act totally differently than what the carp were used to. I caught loads more than Turtle because he had some mental block over the stiff rig, even though I was catching so many on it. Being in the last swim before the out of bounds may have had something to do with it, good angling, I say, I drove so I got the pick of the spots! You can see from the photo, fish a Flatliner Distance on a hard bottom like gravel sand or clay and the shape will actually hold the loop of a stiff rig off the bottom allowing a very free pivot point for the hook link. So, if the bottom is clean and hard and you are fishing with boilies (stiff rigs don't work with small baits like particles, they restrict the movement of a small bait too much) then try that combination. |

By its very nature the flat pear lead lends itself to being fished on marginal slopes, the sides or back or gravel bars and in rivers. But, in fact it is open of the most effective shapes at short to medium range because it holds so well on the lake bed and offers so much resistance to a moving carp. We have also seen that this type of lead is by far the most like a stone on the lake bed and during the Filming of Parts 1, 3 and 4 this lead blended in better than any other. Popular misconception 'Flat leads sit on silt'. This does not happen, any lead finds its easiest path through the water so instead of fluttering down to the lake bed, a nose heavy flat lead like this will plummet down side on and nose first. Korda Square Pear Inline Lead 1.5oz Leads And Weights Korda Due to the four flat sides on the lead, its virtually impossible for the carp to roll this lead on the bottom. This means the carp has to move the whole lead so feeling the full weight instantly. Carp up-end to feed sitting in water in an almost vertical position. If they pick up your hook bait and right themselves, the shortness of the lead means it will be picked up off the lake bed very quickly. The carp now has the hook in its mouth hanging under which is all of your lead - no resistance to feel the weight almost immediately. Korda Tournament Casting Lead 1.5oz Leads And Weights Korda This lead was originally called the Distance Casting and was superseded several years ago when long-distance caster Alan Partridge convinced me his distance shape cast further, which it did. I actually outcast my own lead with his shape, this is the more Arseley Bomb shaped design we still sell today. So, the old 'Zipp' style lead fell out of our range for several years until I spent more and more time fishing with Frank Warwick. He loved the old pointed shape and asked if we could make him some, which we did. The phone went red hot after that with enquiries about the shape. Frank had obviously told a few mates about the leads and the word quickly spread on the grapevine. The leads went back into the range the following year. In the meantime we sponsored the British Angling Championships casting Competition. Whilst visiting the event I got talking to some of the UK's top Tournament Casters concerning lead shape. They all insisted that their 'Zipp' type shape went the furthest. I compared it to ours and it was slightly more nose heavy than our longer more slender shape, this made sense because their leads certainly seemed more stable in the air. After seeing this we set about redesigned the shape very slightly using the Tournament casters leads as a guide. The 4.5oz and 5oz came first at the request of Frank. He loved them when he saw them and over time we have updated the entire range from 1.5oz right up to 5oz to match the tournament casters designs. The name was obvious; we had to differentiate from the dumpier Distance Casting. As the name suggests this is the lead to have on when you have to go for maximum distance. Whether that is with a 2oz or a 5oz you will cast this lead further than any other. Couple this lead with the Korda Lead Clip system, the new Korda Run Rig system, or a helicopter rig for maximum distance. |
